More than 120 students from secondary and high schools aged 12-19 in Da Nang participated in the training “𝙔𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙜 𝙁𝙪𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚 𝙇𝙚𝙖𝙙𝙚𝙧” from July 16-20, 2024, which starts the Skills Training Series for Da Nang Children and Adolescents. Youth-on! Hackathon is a programming competition for students aged 12 to 19 to encourage creativity and breakthrough thinking in the field of technology in the digital era 4.0. Following the success of the two seasons 2021 and 2023, Youth-On! Hackathon season 3 acts as a launching pad for young people to freely develop their capacities, passion for programming and initiate technology projects that have positive impact for the community. This year’s competition is part of the Healthy Cities for Adolescent (HCA) Project – Phase 2.

Continuing the success of two seasons in 2021 and 2023, this year, UNICEF in collaboration with the VN-UK Institute for Research and Executive Education, University of Da Nang, organize the next season of Youth On! Hackathon.

We’re thrilled to share that over 60 enthusiastic young minds have joined us, presenting a range of innovative solutions to promote the mental well-being of adolescents and youths. Especially, the competition is a part of the series of activities in honor of World Children’s Day this year in Viet Nam, with a key focus on mental health.

After more than three months of anticipation, the first round of the U-Invent 6 Science and Technology Creativity Competition will officially commence this Sunday, October 22, 2023, at the Vietnam Institute for Research and Training – Older Brother.

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has collaborated with the Vietnamese Institute for Research and Training – England (VNUK), Da Nang University and Da Nang Youth Union to organize the 6th season of the U-Invent competition in Da Nang City. The competition is part of the Healthy City for Adolescents project (HCA) and is themed “Bridging innovation for a better life – Leaving no one behind”. U-Invent 6 aims to provide a platform for young adults to develop their creative thinking skills and enhance their sense of responsibility towards the community.

After two rounds of careful selection, we are thrilled to announce that the Healthy City for Adolescents (HCA) Project phase 2 in Da Nang has chosen teenagers to become core members of the Youth Advisory Group (AYAG). These young individuals have shown great potential, passion, and connection to their work. They represent the voices of teenagers and young adults in Da Nang who are participating in the HCA project.

On disaster risk reduction & Climate actions
The English Speaking Contest on Disaster risk reduction & Climate actions is held by the Vietnam Disaster and Dyke Management Authority (MARD) in cooperation with the United Nations Children’s Fund in Viet Nam (UNICEF).. This is a great opportunity for children to show their viewpoints and express innovative ideas on Disaster risk reduction & Climate change

A team of more than 200 volunteers, consisting of Vietnamese experts, students, and international students from 11 different time zones, operate STEAM for Vietnam. In just two years, they have already provided training in computational thinking, programming skills, and artistic thinking to over 50,000 students in Vietnam and 30 other countries worldwide.

Leading up to the 11th World Urban Forum in Poland from June 26-30, Fondation Botnar, the sponsor for the HCA project in Da Nang, is organizing a media campaign called #MyCityMyVoice for youth and young adults. This is an opportunity for you to share your ideas and ask questions to experts and world leaders about urbanization and city planning.

Video contest: 1-minute green for students in Danang city will start on this year

An experience-sharing conference is important to evaluate the implementation of the Child-Friendly City Initiative and Healthy Cities for Adolescents Project. It is involved by leaders and experts from ministries, selected cities as well as key stakeholders so as to review the progress of projects and share lessons learned together.

The contest was held by the Vietnam National Institute of Educational Sciences and the United Nations Children’s Fund with the target of improving knowledge about sex education for students.

The end of project assessment is important to inform the future programming/scaling up of the
HCA project in Da Nang for the upcoming period. It requires independent views and perspectives. This task requires a national consultant with extensive evaluation background as well as practical

Over 3 weeks joining the “Leadership Skills Training Courses for Da Nang Children and Adolescents” from September 11 to October 3, 2021, 79 students aged 10 to 18 years old from many schools have acquired essential knowledge and skills such as presentation, teamwork, research, pressure and time control.

On 4th November 2021, the Da Nang Youth Union coordinated with the Healthy Cities for Adolescents project (UNICEF Vietnam) to organise a training program of school psychological counselling, and techniques for empathic listening and emotion management. The training program took place on November 4 and 5, 2021, helping to improve a better understanding of the importance of school psychology counselling in high schools and thereby, gradually creating a task force to promptly recognise and resolve conflicts among students.

In order to encourage children to participate in healthy activities and effectively use their time at home during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Youth Union coordinated with the Healthy cities for Adolescents project (UNICEF Vietnam) to organize the video contest “Da Nang Children – Happy Creativity Time, Useful Skills Learning”. Submission period was from September 5 to October 25, 2021, and the awards are expected to be announced in November 2021.

Da Nang is emerging as a city with enormous potential for development. Being home to more than one million people, the city is a vibrant industrial, commercial, financial, educational, technological and tourist hub. With the strong leadership and commitment from the city’s leaders, Da Nang is on the path to become Viet Nam’s second Child-Friendly City, along with Ho Chi Minh City. Da Nang already has several building blocks in place, including an Action Programme for Implementation of Viet Nam’s Youth Strategy, which encourages youth-centered human resource development; strengthens education and life skills; employ the application of new technology; support vocational training and employment opportunities; improve health, fitness and stature; and promote cultural and recreational activities.
