2016 Children’s Law Communication Training: Spreading Knowledge, Connecting Youth

Da Nang, December 8th and 15th, 2024 – 50 delegates from the City-level Children’s Council (CC) participated in a special communication skills training course on the 2016 Children’s Law. This activity is part of the Child-Friendly Cities Initiative (CFCI) and Phase II of the Healthy Cities for Adolescents (HCA-II) project in Da Nang (2023–2026), with support from UNICEF Vietnam and the Da Nang Youth Union. The training aims to equip City-level CC’s delegates with essential skills to become effective representatives, ensuring the voices and aspirations of children and adolescents are heard and reflected in Da Nang’s key policies.

In the morning session, delegates were provided with fundamental knowledge about the 2016 Children’s Law and learned how to design communication programs. During the afternoon, they engaged in group discussions, applied the knowledge gained, and developed creative communication plans to promote the Children’s Law to their peers in Hoa Vang District.

Outstanding Creativity: 5 Groups, 5 Unique Ideas
The five participating groups presented diverse and engaging ideas, contributing to the development of a dynamic communication program. Each group took responsibility for a specific aspect of the event, including:
- Dramatic skits
- Quiz questions
- Presentations on the Children’s Law
- Interactive games
- Event logistics and communication

Despite having only one week to prepare, the children excelled in their tasks, demonstrating remarkable creativity and a strong sense of responsibility.

On December 15, at Nguyen Tri Phuong Secondary School in Hoa Bac Commune, Hoa Vang District, 50 city-level Children’s Council delegates hosted an interactive session with 50 local children. Among the participants were 30 Co Tu ethnic minority children and 20 children from underprivileged and marginalized families in Ta Lang and Gian Bi villages, Hoa Bac Commune, Hoa Vang District.
The topics covered included:
- The minimum age for employment
- Permitted and prohibited occupations for minors
- Legal working hours
- The dangers of child labor

This activity not only provided knowledge but also inspired children to protect their rights proactively.

Affirming Children’s Rights: Spreading and Connecting
The communication training on the 2016 Children’s Law enhanced children’s participation in issues they care about while creating opportunities to reach marginalized groups. It helped children better understand their rights, laying the foundation for building a healthy, child-friendly Da Nang where every child has the opportunity to thrive.
Let’s join hands to support and promote these meaningful initiatives, ensuring no child is left behind!
