The U-Invent 7 technology innovation competition is reaching its climax, filled with exciting and challenging stages. In the Prototype Round, creative ideas were transformed into tangible prototypes, with teams passionately presenting their solutions to the judging panel. Eleven outstanding teams have been selected to advance to the semi-finals on December 8th.

U-Invent 7 – A Creative Journey Towards a Safer Tomorrow

As part of the Healthy City for Adolescents Phase II (HCA-II) project in Da Nang, UNICEF Vietnam, in collaboration with the Vietnam-UK Research and Training Institute, Da Nang University, organized the seventh annual U-Invent science and technology competition. The meaningful theme, “Innovation for a Safer Future,” aimed to uncover groundbreaking ideas that combine science and technology to address real-world challenges, contributing to a safer and more sustainable life. Beyond fostering a positive environment for students to showcase their digital and community-focused creativity, the competition serves as a launchpad for bringing innovative solutions to life and building a safer future.

Competition Goals:

The Journey of Creative Ideas in U-Invent 7

  • Kick-off Round (October 13th, 2024): This exciting round saw the participation of 39 teams from 21 high schools nationwide. Young contestants enthusiastically presented their ideas, receiving dedicated guidance from advisors and mentors.
  • Solution Round (November 3rd, 2024): 39 teams competed, each with 5 minutes for presentation and 5 minutes for Q&A with the judges. 26 outstanding teams progressed to the next round.
  • Prototype Presentation Round (November 17th, 2024): This stage saw teams bring their ideas to life. In just 10 minutes (5 minutes presentation, 5 minutes Q&A), young innovators showcased their creativity and dedication, demonstrating both advanced technologies and practical solutions. 15 outstanding teams advanced to the semi-finals.

Top 15 Outstanding Innovative Ideas:

This year, many competing teams utilized cutting-edge technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), blockchain technology, and LoRa technology. Below are some exemplary projects, highlighting the diversity and potential of these young innovators:

1. Project: “Creating Methods to Reduce Milk Carton Waste to Protect the Environment” (Team: Green Rebirth; Field: Environmental Protection) – This project aims to research and propose effective methods to reduce milk carton waste, including reducing production and increasing recycling/reuse.

2. Project: “Research on Eco-Friendly Artificial Leather from Bagasse and Bacterial Cellulose” (Team: Đậu Đại Học; Field: Environment, Sustainable Marine Development) – This project aims to reduce the burden on the leather industry and contribute to a more sustainable future for the fashion industry.

3. Project: “Smart Life Buoy Integrated with Sensors, Reducing the Risk of Drowning” (Team: Safe Float; Field: AI) – This innovative solution significantly reduces the risk of drowning using modern sensors to quickly and accurately detect those in distress. Upon detecting a distress signal, the buoy automatically sends an alert.

4. Project: “Website Promoting Children’s Rights Awareness” (Team: The U-Invent; Field: Information Technology) – This website aims to improve understanding of children’s rights, promoting and protecting their well-being in all circumstances.

5. Project: “Safe and Efficient Landslide Warning System” (Team: C.A.C; Field: Information Technology) – This advanced technology minimizes landslide damage by sending immediate alerts to nearby residents via mobile devices when unusual activity indicating potential landslides is detected.

6. Project: “IoT and LoRa-based Greenhouse Control System, Contributing to Smart Agriculture” (Team: SWClean; Field: IoT) – This innovative system automates greenhouse cultivation, improving productivity and product quality by using a sensor network to collect environmental data, transmitted via LoRa technology for processing and analysis to control equipment.

7. Project: “Civilian Firefighting Robot, Supporting Rescue and Relief Efforts” (Team: Arise Force; Field: Robotics, AI) – This AI-powered robot automatically detects fires, navigates effectively, and extinguishes flames, offering crucial support to firefighters. It’s equipped with advanced sensors, intelligent control systems, and wireless connectivity for remote control and observation.

8. Project: “Device for Stress Reduction and Mental Health Promotion” (Team: BREEZ; Field: Health, Wellness) – This device combines health measurement technology and aromatherapy for effective stress reduction and improved user well-being.

9. Project: “Sign Language Website” (Team: Bright Spark; Field: AI, Image Recognition) – This website uses AI and image recognition to translate sign language into text, breaking down communication barriers for the deaf community.

10. Project: “Intelligent Driver Assistance System, Enhancing Traffic Safety” (Team: Scuderia Azzurra; Field: AI, Traffic Safety) – This project aims to enhance driver and passenger safety and reduce traffic accidents by integrating advanced technologies into vehicle control systems.

11. Project: “AI System for Rabies Detection and Warning, Protecting Public Health” (Team: MasterInnova; Field: AI) – This AI system has significant potential in preventing rabies and safeguarding public health.

12. Project: “Emergency Escape Guidance System for Mini-Apartments and High-Rise Buildings in Case of Fire” (Team: Light; Field: Fire Safety) – This system comprises LCD screens, fire detectors, flammable gas sensors, an MP3 audio circuit, an Arduino circuit, and a SimA7680C module.

13. Project: “Waste Collection Robot Supporting Storm Prevention and Environmental Protection” (Team: Oách Xà Lách; Field: AI, Robotics) – This robot automatically collects waste on the ground and in flooded areas, preventing blockages and operating effectively in harsh weather conditions to support storm response and maintain environmental hygiene.

14. Project: “Using Curcumin Extracted from Turmeric to Detect Borax in Food” (Team: Chemtheboys; Field: Food Safety) – This project explores curcumin’s potential in detecting borax based on color changes or other optical properties, offering a simpler alternative to complex chemical testing methods.

15. Project: “Products from Plants with Anti-Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria Properties” (Team: The Passion; Field: Health) – This project focuses on developing products extracted from plants that inhibit and kill antibiotic-resistant bacteria, offering a safe and sustainable solution to treat complex infections.
