Yet digital transformation is not only about technology\u2014it is also about who gets to participate in shaping and building these systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this context, a new approach is emerging: empowering adolescents in Da Nang to become <strong>agents of change<\/strong>. Rather than remaining passive users of technology, young people are increasingly taking on active roles as co-creators\u2014developing digital solutions that directly shape the services and systems affecting their own lives and communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Adolescents: From Users to Solution Builders<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Through the activities of the Healthy Cities for Adolescents Phase II project (<a href=\"https:\/\/hcadanang.com\/en\/\"><strong>HCA-II<\/strong><\/a>) in Da Nang\u2014funded by <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fondationbotnar.org\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Botnar Foundation<\/a><\/strong> and managed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecorys.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Ecorys<\/strong><\/a>\u2014young people have progressively engaged across the entire solution development process:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Identifying problems based on lived experiences<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Co-designing solutions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Developing prototypes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Presenting ideas to policymakers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Hundreds of adolescents have shared their perspectives on issues such as mental health, online risks, and digital learning. Through research and product development, I hope our solution can have a positive impact on my peers and society as a whole.\u201d<\/em><br>\u2014 <strong>Hoang Cong Bao Long, 18, YOH 2023 and 2024<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Youth On! Hackathon, U-Invent and STEM: Where Adolescents Create Real Change<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Between February 2023 and February 2026, more than 900 young people participated in activities across both digital and in-person platforms (YOH, U-Invent, STEM), aimed at amplifying youth voices and co-creating solutions for adolescent health and participation. Notably, girls accounted for approximately <strong>42% of total participants (377 out of 900)<\/strong>\u2014reflecting a significant increase in female engagement in fields where they have traditionally been underrepresented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This shift not only reflects expanding access to opportunities, but also highlights the increasingly proactive role of girls in innovation and community-driven problem-solving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Notable solutions include:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>AI-powered learning platforms<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mental health support applications<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Assistive tools for children with special needs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sign language learning solutions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of these ideas have moved beyond the prototype stage, demonstrating that adolescents are fully capable of developing practical, scalable solutions with real-world impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/hcadanang.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/15-2-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-16363\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hcadanang.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/15-2-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/hcadanang.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/15-2-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/hcadanang.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/15-2-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/hcadanang.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/15-2-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/hcadanang.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/15-2-2048x1365.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/hcadanang.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/15-2-1568x1045.jpg 1568w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>\u201cOur team is VERA, and we are developing a reading motivation app. We chose this topic because we see that we are currently in a boom era of artificial intelligence (AI). AI presents not only opportunities but also challenges. That\u2019s why we decided to create a product that leverages the strengths of AI to make reading more engaging, helping people access knowledge more easily without becoming entirely dependent on AI.\u201d<\/em><br>\u2014 <strong>Gia Han, 15, VERA Team, Winner of \u201cMost Loved Project,\u201d YOH 2024<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Youth Voices Are Shaping Systems<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Adolescents participating in the HCA-II Da Nang over the period of Feb 2023 and Feb 2026 are not only creating products\u2014they are also influencing how systems function.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the COVID-19 pandemic, young people highlighted the limitations of online learning\u2014not only in terms of access, but also the overall learning experience.
