Da Nang, October 11, 2025 \u2013 In celebration of Global Handwashing Day (October 15) and the International Day of the Girl Child (October 11), UNICEF Viet Nam<\/a>, in collaboration with the Da Nang Department of Health (DoH)<\/a> and the Department of Education and Training (DoE)<\/a>, organized the event \u201cHandwashing Heroes\u201d at Nguyen Hue Secondary School (Hai Chau District), attracting the active participation of over 1,000 students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event is part of the C<\/strong>hild-Friendly Cities Initiative (CFCI) \u2013 Da Nang, 2023\u20132026 and the Healthy Cities for Adolescents \u2013 Phase II (HCA<\/a>-II) project, funded by Fondation Botnar<\/a> and managed by Ecorys<\/a>, aiming to promote children\u2019s rights to live in a healthy environment, receive proper care, and reach their full potential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Handwashing with Soap \u2013 A Shield for Health<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

With the messages \u201cHandwashing with soap \u2013 A shield for health\u201d and \u201cSafe menstrual hygiene \u2013 Caring for health, staying confident at school\u201d<\/strong>, the event sought to raise awareness among students, teachers, and communities about the importance of clean water, personal hygiene, and adolescent reproductive health, especially for girls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Over 1,000 students, teachers, and representatives joined a series of lively and educational activities:<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • A theatrical performance on menstrual hygiene and gender equality.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • A \u201c6 Steps of Handwashing\u201d puzzle game, following the Ministry of Health\u2019s guidelines.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • A \u201cHealth Wheel\u201d quiz and an interactive poster exhibition on clean water, sanitation, and adolescent health.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • A handprint pledge ceremony, where participants committed to \u201cClean Schools \u2013 Healthy Students \u2013 Bright Futures.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • The event concluded with an energetic folk dance performance, \u201cHandwashing with Soap and Clean Water,\u201d promoting joy and togetherness.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    A Call to Action for Health and Equality<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    At the event, Dr. Nguyen Huy Du \u2013 Acting Chief of School Health and Nutrition (CSDE), UNICEF Viet Nam \u2013 called for:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    • Ensuring that all schools provide access to clean water and safe sanitation facilities for students.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Enhancing personal hygiene education, especially for girls, while engaging boys and fathers in promoting hygiene practices.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Strengthening collaboration among schools, families, local authorities, and the private sector to improve community hygiene.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Investing in solutions that protect girls\u2019 rights and safety, focusing on access to clean water and proper sanitation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
