Leadership Skills Training Courses for Da Nang Children and Adolescents
Da Nang is emerging as a city with enormous potential for development. Being home to more than one million people, the city is a vibrant industrial, commercial, financial, educational, technological and tourist hub. With the strong leadership and commitment from the city’s leaders, Da Nang is on the path to become Viet Nam’s second Child-Friendly City, along with Ho Chi Minh City. Da Nang already has several building blocks in place, including an Action Programme for Implementation of Viet Nam’s Youth Strategy, which encourages youth-centered human resource development; strengthens education and life skills; employ the application of new technology; support vocational training and employment opportunities; improve health, fitness and stature; and promote cultural and recreational activities.
While Da Nang stands out as a city committed to accountable and transparent governance, this has not yet translated into opportunities for meaningful and inclusive child and youth participation, especially among marginalized and vulnerable girls and boys. There are limited opportunities for children and adolescents to contribute their views, ideas and solutions to the city’s problems, or to provide citizen feedback on the quality of public services provided to them. It is important to create innovative and systematic platforms to promote meaningful participation of adolescents and young people in planning and development of city’s programmes and policies that affect their lives. In addition, enhancing leadership skills of children and adolescents is essential to empower them to participate in policy decision making processes.
Given that, HCA Da Nang project (UNICEF Vietnam) in collaboration with the Da Nang Youth Union organizes 2 training courses on leadership skills for children aged 10 – 14 and adolescents aged 15-18, aiming to strengthen their leadership skills and create a playground for them.
