Your future leader – Leadership and debate skills training for more than 120 Da Nang youths
More than 120 students from secondary and high schools aged 12-19 in Da Nang participated in the training “𝙔𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙜 𝙁𝙪𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚 𝙇𝙚𝙖𝙙𝙚𝙧” from July 16-20, 2024, which starts the Skills Training Series for Da Nang Children and Adolescents. This is an activity implemented by UNICEF Vietnam and the VN-UK Institute for Research and Executive Education (VNUK), Danang University, under the Healthy Cities for Youth (HCA) project phase 2.

Youth-on! Hackathon is a programming competition for students aged 12 to 19 to encourage creativity and breakthrough thinking in the field of technology in the digital era 4.0. Following the success of the two seasons 2021 and 2023, Youth-On! Hackathon season 3 acts as a launching pad for young people to freely develop their capacities, passion for programming and initiate technology projects that have positive impact for the community. The 2024’s International Letter Writing Campaign is a writing competition, co-organized by UNICEF and the Universal Postal Union (UPU). The campaign amplifies children’s and adolescents’ voices and to share their hopes and dreams for future generations via the global stage. This year’s campaign invites children ages 9 to 15 years old to write: “A letter to future generations about the world they hope to inherit.”

At the final competition, seven outstanding teams showcased their innovations and talent. Each team was given 12 minutes to pitch their project, followed by a 10-minute Q&A with the judging panel. The ultimate accolades of U-Invent season 6 have found their true owners after rigorous competition and great performances.

Upgrading two playgrounds in Da Nang
Children are playing at a UNICEF-supported newly renovated playground in Da Nang City as life normalcy is restoring in the coastal area. Debating contest “Danang Adolescents participate in building a healthy and child-friendly city”
Over 3 weeks joining the “Leadership Skills Training Courses for Da Nang Children and Adolescents” from September 11 to October 3, 2021, 79 students aged 10 to 18 years old from many schools have acquired essential knowledge and skills such as presentation, teamwork, research, pressure and time control.
School Psychological Counselling Training Program
On 4th November 2021, the Da Nang Youth Union coordinated with the Healthy Cities for Adolescents project (UNICEF Vietnam) to organise a training program of school psychological counselling, and techniques for empathic listening and emotion management. The training program took place on November 4 and 5, 2021, helping to improve a better understanding of the importance of school psychology counselling in high schools and thereby, gradually creating a task force to promptly recognise and resolve conflicts among students.
Study-from-home with the Online Contest: “DA NANG CHILDREN – HAPPY CREATIVITY TIME, USEFUL SKILLS LEARNING”
In order to encourage children to participate in healthy activities and effectively use their time at home during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Youth Union coordinated with the Healthy cities for Adolescents project (UNICEF Vietnam) to organize the video contest “Da Nang Children – Happy Creativity Time, Useful Skills Learning”. Leadership Skills Training Courses for Da Nang Children and Adolescents
Da Nang is emerging as a city with enormous potential for development. Being home to more than one million people, the city is a vibrant industrial, commercial, financial, educational, technological and tourist hub. With the strong leadership and commitment from the city’s leaders, Da Nang is on the path to become Viet Nam’s second Child-Friendly City, along with Ho Chi Minh City. Da Nang already has several building blocks in place, including an Action Programme for Implementation of Viet Nam’s Youth Strategy, which encourages youth-centered human resource development; strengthens education and life skills; employ the application of new technology; support vocational training and employment opportunities; improve health, fitness and stature; and promote cultural and recreational activities.
